Keelson vs Kenect for boat dealers: texting platform or AI sales desk?

By Keelson Intelligence · Updated · 11 min read

Kenect is a dealership communication platform (texting, web chat, reviews, payments, Engage AI and Voice AI) that your staff run across sales and service, while Keelson is an AI sales desk that answers every boat lead by text and email inside 60 seconds, qualifies the buyer, books the sea trial and follows up for 90 days before handing off to a salesperson. Choose Kenect if you want one inbox for every department and have people to work the leads; choose Keelson if your gap is unanswered marketplace leads and unbooked appointments. Keelson publishes its price (from $795 a month); Kenect does not, as of October 2026.

What Kenect is for a marine dealership

Kenect is a customer communication platform that dealership staff use to text, chat and collect reviews and payments. Its home page calls it “AI for Dealerships” across vehicle types (Kenect), and its marine solution page, titled “Text Messaging and Reputation Management for Marine Dealers”, groups the product into five areas as read in October 2026:

  • AI: Engage AI, which sends automated replies to inbound texts and emails, and Voice AI, which Kenect launched in September 2025 to answer phone calls.
  • Messaging: two-way business texting from the dealership's number, web chat on the dealer website, and broadcast messaging to lists.
  • Reviews: a reputation management suite, private feedback and review responses.
  • Payments: text-to-pay and pay over time.
  • Publishing and utilities: a content library, social media publishing, a mobile app and DMS integrations.

The integration list is where Kenect is strongest for a boat dealer. Its integrations directory tags DockMaster, Winboats, Lightspeed, IDS, DP360, Blackpurl, Total Control Software, DX1, Motility, Traffic Log Pro, ZiiDMS, Rollick, Salesforce and HubSpot as marine connections, and Winboats has its own integration page. If your store runs Winboats or IDS, that matters, because Keelson does not list either one.

What the marine page does not describe is a salesperson-free path from a new lead to a booked appointment. It offers appointment reminders sent by text from the dealership's number, which assumes a person set the appointment first. How Engage AI handles a sales lead, what it is allowed to say about a specific boat, and when it hands off are not detailed on the marine page, so ask for a demo on one of your own Boat Trader leads.

What Keelson is: an AI sales desk, not a shared inbox

Keelson is software that works each new boat lead on the dealership's behalf until a salesperson is needed. It does five jobs, in order:

  1. Answers every YachtWorld, Boat Trader, boats.com, YATCO, BoatWizard, website, Meta and Google lead-form lead by text and email inside 60 seconds, in the dealership's name, from its own number and email domain.
  2. Qualifies in conversation: budget, timeline, trade-in, financing need, boating experience, intended use and home water, answering only from the inventory feed and approved policy.
  3. Books showroom visits, sea trials and video walkthroughs into the salesperson's Google Calendar or Outlook, with confirmations, reminders and rescheduling.
  4. Follows up for 90 days with price-drop and new-inventory alerts matched to what the buyer asked about, and re-engages buyers after boat shows.
  5. Hands off financing terms, trade values and anything off-script to a named salesperson with the conversation so far; the salesperson can take over from a phone at any time, and the follow-up stops when they do or when the buyer opts out.

A manager cockpit shows response time, contact rate, appointments and show rate by lead source and salesperson. Keelson connects to HubSpot, Salesforce, Lightspeed and DockMaster (see integrations). It does not make or answer phone calls, value boats, appraise trades, write listings, or handle service, parts, reviews or payments. Keelson launched in October 2026 and its first dealer pilots start in December 2026, so it has no reviews or track record yet; Kenect has years of both.

Keelson vs Kenect side by side: channels, response time, booking, follow-up, price and contract

Both products text buyers, but Kenect equips your staff while Keelson does the first stretch of selling itself.

The real difference: who works the Boat Trader lead at 9:40 on a Saturday night

With Kenect your salespeople work every sales lead; with Keelson the software works it until a person is genuinely needed. The clearest way to see it is one lead, followed through both setups. A buyer submits a Boat Trader inquiry on a 23-foot bowrider at 9:40 on a Saturday night in May.

With Kenect as the texting platform

  1. The lead lands in your CRM or DMS and, depending on setup, in Kenect.
  2. Engage AI may send an automated acknowledgement; what it can say about that specific boat is something to confirm in your demo.
  3. On Sunday or Monday a salesperson opens the conversation, answers the questions about the boat, asks about trade and budget, and offers sea trial times.
  4. Once the buyer agrees a time, the salesperson enters the appointment, and Kenect can send the reminder text.
  5. Follow-up after that depends on the salesperson's own discipline and your CRM tasks.

With Keelson as the sales desk

  1. Within 60 seconds the buyer gets a text and an email from the dealership's number and domain, answering the question from the inventory feed.
  2. The conversation gathers budget, timeline, trade-in, financing need, experience, intended use and home water.
  3. Keelson offers sea trial times from the assigned salesperson's calendar and books one, with a confirmation and reminders.
  4. The trade-in question goes to the salesperson, with the conversation attached, for Monday morning.
  5. If the buyer goes quiet, a 90-day cadence picks up, including a text if the price on that bowrider drops.

Neither path is wrong. If your sales team reliably answers within minutes, including weekends, the Kenect path costs you little. If Monday morning is when weekend leads actually get worked, the gap is the 36 hours in between, at a time when MRAA's president was telling dealers in November 2025 to greet web leads in “less than 60 seconds” (Soundings Trade Only). Our after-hours boat leads guide covers that window in detail.

When Kenect is the better choice for a boat dealer

Kenect is the better choice in at least six situations. We would rather you buy it than the wrong product from us.

  • You want one texting platform for every department. Service, parts, sales and the front desk sharing one number and inbox is Kenect's design; Keelson only touches new sales leads.
  • Your service department drives the need. Text-to-pay, pay over time and review requests are Kenect features with no Keelson equivalent.
  • You want AI on the phones. Kenect Voice AI answers calls; Keelson does not do voice at all.
  • You run Winboats or IDS. Kenect lists both; Keelson's integrations are HubSpot, Salesforce, Lightspeed and DockMaster.
  • Your salespeople already answer fast and book the appointment themselves. If the people are doing the job, a texting tool that makes them quicker is the cheaper fix.
  • You want a vendor with a long track record and public reviews. Kenect has years in marine and a Capterra rating; Keelson launched in October 2026.

When Keelson is the better choice

Keelson is the better choice when the problem is leads that nobody answers fast enough, qualifies or books.

  • Most of your leads come from YachtWorld, Boat Trader and boats.com. Keelson names each as a lead source and replies from your number, never marketplace messaging; our YachtWorld and Boat Trader lead guide explains how those leads arrive.
  • Leads arrive after hours and on weekends. Keelson replies inside 60 seconds at any hour, which is hard to staff in a seasonal business.
  • Sea trials are not getting booked. Keelson books into the salesperson's calendar and handles confirmations, reminders and rescheduling; our sea trial scheduling guide shows why booking, not reminding, is the step that slips.
  • Follow-up stops after the second touch. Keelson runs a written 90-day cadence and stops the moment a salesperson takes over or the buyer opts out.
  • You are a yacht brokerage. The Brokerage plan prices per firm plus per broker over five; see Keelson for yacht brokers.
  • You want a published price and a way out. Plans start at $795 a month, with no per-lead or per-appointment fees and a 90-day opt-out in the first annual term.

Can Keelson and Kenect run together at the same dealership?

Yes, as long as each system has a clear job and no buyer ever gets two first texts. A workable split is Kenect for service, parts, reviews, payments and general showroom texting, and Keelson for new sales leads from marketplaces, the website and ads until a salesperson takes over. Keelson does not list a direct Kenect integration as of October 2026, so the two share customer history through your DMS or CRM; Lightspeed and DockMaster appear on both integration lists.

Every system that texts buyers needs its sending registered under 10DLC, and consent and opt-outs need to line up across both; our TCPA and 10DLC guide for boat dealers explains the rules. This is general information, not legal advice. Running both also means paying for both, so compare the combined cost with what the extra booked sea trials are worth before deciding.

Frequently asked questions

Is Kenect worth the money for a small marine dealer?

It can be if your staff answer leads quickly and you want one texting inbox for sales and service, plus reviews and text-to-pay. Kenect publishes no price, so get a written quote and the contract term before you sign. If your real gap is weekend and after-hours leads nobody answers, or sea trials that never get booked, a texting tool alone will not close it, and an AI sales desk such as Keelson is the closer fit.

What is the difference between Kenect Engage AI and a dedicated AI lead responder?

Engage AI is one feature inside a communication platform built for staff, sending automated replies to inbound texts and emails. A dedicated AI lead responder such as Keelson is built around the sales lead itself: it replies inside 60 seconds from the inventory feed, qualifies on seven points, books the sea trial into a calendar and follows up for 90 days before handing off. Ask Kenect to demo Engage AI on a real Boat Trader lead.

Does Kenect book sea trials or showroom appointments?

Kenect's marine page, as read in October 2026, describes appointment reminders sent by text from the dealership's number, not booking a new appointment from a lead conversation. That means a salesperson usually sets the time first. Keelson books showroom visits, sea trials and video walkthroughs into Google Calendar or Outlook and handles confirmations, reminders and rescheduling. Confirm Kenect's current capability in a demo, since features change.

How much does Kenect cost compared with Keelson?

Kenect does not publish pricing, so the only way to compare is a written quote. Keelson publishes its plans: from $795 a month for one rooftop on an annual plan, month to month 10% higher, a $1,500 setup fee waived on annual prepay, and no per-lead or per-appointment fees. Ask Kenect for the per-rooftop price, any message limits and the contract length so you are comparing like with like.

Can I keep Kenect for service and use Keelson for sales leads?

Yes. A workable split: Kenect for service, parts, reviews and payments, Keelson for new sales leads from YachtWorld, Boat Trader, boats.com, the website and ads. Settle at setup which system sends the first reply so the buyer gets one text, make sure opt-outs are honoured on both, and have both write to the same DMS or CRM record.

Does Keelson make phone calls like Kenect Voice AI?

No. Keelson works by text and email only and does not make or answer phone calls. Kenect launched Voice AI in September 2025 for calls. If phone coverage is your main need, Kenect or another voice product is the better fit. If the need is answering written leads in 60 seconds and booking the sea trial, Keelson covers that and routes callers to your team.
